National Boston Cream Pie Dayis observed every year on October 23. It's called a "pie" but it's really "cake". It is yellow cake, with custard filling and chocolate frosting. Usually it is cake shaped, but can be in the form of a cupcake or a donut.
It started in 1856, at Boston’s Parker House Hotel. Armenian-French chef M. Sanzian created this pudding and cake combination which comprises two layers of sponge cake filled with vanilla flavored custard or creme patisserie. The cake is then topped with a chocolate glaze, such as a ganache or sometimes powdered sugar and a cherry.
In 1996, Massachusetts declared the Boston Cream Pie as their official dessert. I haven't printed a recipe in a while, but as holidays are coming, you might want to look at this one.
Ingredients for Custard Filling
2 large eggs
1 1/2cups milk
1/3cup granulated sugar
Ingredients for Cake
Baking spray with flour to grease pan
1 1/4cups all-purpose flour or 1 1/2 cups cake flour
1cup granulated sugar
1/3cup butter or margarine, room temperature
1 1/2teaspoons baking powder
Ingredients for Chocolate Icing
3tablespoons butter or margarine
3oz unsweetened baking chocolate
3to 4 tablespoons water
1cup powdered sugar
1. Place an egg separator over a small bowl. Crack open 1 egg over the egg separator to seperate the yolk from the white; then separate the other egg. (Save the whites for another recipe.) In a small bowl, place the yolks. Beat the egg yolks with a fork or wire whisk until mixed. Stir in 1 1/2 cups milk; set aside.
2. In a 2-quart saucepan, stir 1/3 cup granulated sugar, the cornstarch and 1/8 teaspoon salt until mixed. Gradually stir egg mixture into sugar mixture. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils. Boil and stir 1 minute; remove from heat. Stir in 2 teaspoons vanilla. Press plastic wrap on surface of filling to prevent a tough layer from forming on top. Refrigerate at least 2 hours until set but no longer than 24 hours. While filling is chilling, continue with recipe.
3. Heat the oven to 350°F. Spray just the bottom of a 9-inch round cake pan with the baking spray.
4. In a large bowl, beat all cake ingredients with an electric mixer on low speed 30 seconds, stopping frequently to scrape batter from side and bottom of bowl with a rubber spatula. Beat on high speed 3 minutes, stopping occasionally to scrape bowl. Pour batter into the pan; use a rubber spatula to scrape batter from bowl, spread batter evenly in pan and smooth top of batter.
5. Bake about 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool cake in pan on a cooling rack 20 minutes, then remove onto cooling rack to finish cooling completely, about 1 hour.
6. In a 1-quart saucepan, melt 3 tablespoons butter and the chocolate over low heat, stirring occasionally. Meanwhile, in 1-cup glass measuring cup, microwave the water uncovered on High 15 to 30 seconds or until hot. Remove chocolate mixture from heat. Stir in the powdered sugar and 3/4 teaspoon vanilla. Stir in 3 tablespoons hot water. Stir in additional water, 1 teaspoon at a time, until icing is smooth and thin enough to spread.
7. To split cake horizontally in half, mark middle points around side of cake with toothpicks. Using toothpicks as a guide, cut through the cake with a long, sharp knife, using a back-and-forth motion. On a serving plate, place bottom layer with the cut side up. Spread filling over bottom layer. Top with top of cake, cut side down.
8. Spread glaze over top of cake, using a metal spatula or back of a spoon, letting some glaze drizzle down side of cake. Refrigerate uncovered until serving. Store any remaining cake covered in the refrigerator.
At the end of summer I saw that some of my In die Author friends were working on an anthology which would be called Dreamtime Dragons. They needed 2-3 more submissions at that time. The catch was that the story or poem needed to include a dragon. Now anyone who knows me knows I've never written a fantasy story with a dragon. In fact, I have even bragged that I have no dragons in my stories. You also know that I am not afraid to push the boundaries, even if it doesn't go well (and many times it doesn't) So...A dragon story.
I remembered a friend and I talking about imaginary friends, flying dreams and life experiences with things not of the present world. We each had them. Maybe one was a dragon, maybe not. I got to work and out came a sweet little story of an elevenish girl who loved to draw pictures of stories and dreams. She didn't like people talking about her or her art, however. One evening... Read "Ana's Dream of Flying" in Dreamtime Dragons. Pre-Order it today in paperback(cover at left), e-book (cover at right) released soon.

If you've been keeping up with The Dragon's Treasure Series, you can fully understand why the author Guy Donovan dominated and won the recent Arthurian Fantasy Category in 2017's Virtual Fantasy Convention's Annual Awards. Guy breathes life into the dragon Talorc as easily as he follows the humans in the story.
In Songs of Autumn the third in a four-part series, Talorc and Cerys have parted company over a major misunderstanding. They travel separately.
Taloc finds solace among whales who explain to him that they are related to dragons.
Cerys adjusts to palace life, hiding her true identity. Her unorthodox beauty catches the eye of the young king, but he cannot win her heart and ultimately she stages her escape to go in search of her half-brother in another kingdom. Great and well researched detail makes for a movie that constantly plays in the mind of the reader. Surprises all along the way in this page-turning epic that you will want to read quickly to see what happens, then more slowly to savor his craft. Excellent job, Guy Donovan! This is a series I will recommend again and again.
As for the little something extra, Davina Purnell and I write together with Mark McQuillen on a site known as Black Rose - Tales of the Petals. Long story short, we combine story lines using our existing characters or bringing forth new ones. Davina invented a new one: Saleah a young woman enchanted into being a housecat, (sometimes a very LARGE house cat) She protects Malice of Mark's universe Valkyrie from her own darkness and attempts healing. When the first spell is lifted she realizes she is also a sphinx/shifter because of the lion-like face and beautiful wings. Her tears also become crystals - making her aligned with characters in my universe Children of Stone
Here's a tidbit of the WIP "Healing the Wounds"
Note: first draft will be harmonized into one smooth piece so that it will seem as if one person wrote the entire piece.
In this. young Saleah scolds Dio, Marai and Djerah for their lacking understanding of Malices healing processes.
(Dio responds) So angry... Tsk. And no drug. It's just me being myself. The Ambrosia, food of the gods is what we drink here. It does however bring out a person's true nature, exposing it." he looked hurt, but continued. "Part of the healing process is learning to enjoy the self, kick back, chill. I offered good times, peace, contentment and a wild party with lots of new friends. I am not a god of drinking, as some say. I am the god of pleasure, like my mother was a goddess of it, in her day. I don't want to offer what won't be appreciated, or what will be viewed as a threat so I'll just leave then. Come Djerah, these women aren't going to be any good for you. They'll just hurt your heart as all the women have hurt you before.
And by the way, Saleah, you are a beautiful young woman as are you Malice. Do notice I am no satyr. See?" he extended his slim dancerish feet.
Djerah shrugged and moved away from Malice and Saleah, rose from the pool. Dio smoothed his chiton, picked up the glasses and turned to go.
"Malice, Queen of the Valkyr...you have all the power you need to defeat the Enotai single-handedly. That you haven't, I think, means you just enjoy the battle.
Djerah looked back, sadly, because he had been warming up to Malice and was enjoying being pawed by Saleah. He knew that even after thousands of years, he wouldn't be able to bear being turned on, or worse yet, not trusted.
"Dio." Djerah spoke again, drying himself. Marai and I will take them back. I need to create a ship for Malice here so she can be on her way. I'll join you at the gather later.
Marai sighed again. "I'll stay for a while too. But only til you test your wing. Then I'll return you to your battlefield if that's what you hunger for. You ready to go back to Earth?"
Tiny tears were running from Saleah's eyes through her fur making a tinkling noise as they hit the floor turning into stones (foolish broken men gods have you so long lived by your fears that someone else's doesn't move you? Can't you see that her healing body gave her no choice but to change from what it saw as a threat. ..I doubt she was a frequent drinker of ambrosia. She is a Valkyr they thrive on battle right. They are quick to assume the worst. Its what saves them when the worst happens. She hasn't attacked you. ..yet, she warned you she couldn't stop . Still so like children you dismiss us to run.
Save yourselves from mental hurts and broken hearts.
Putting me in yet another unattainable position. I haven't a clue what I am doing. ..note the horns and wings, much less what I am or who. Heck I will probably die in this form now because she thinks I was testing her. ...me a silly girl with dreams of being a proper warrior.
Fine ,at least I will die knowing I met the three biggest pussy's in existence. ) she Chuffed laying her head on the pile of glittering stones that was her tears and worried about Mal...and wondered how it would feel to die ....an odd thought crossed her mind do virgin's get prettier halos in the afterlife?
